FAMILY LAW FEES
For family law matters, we offer set fees for the following services:
We set a fixed fee for almost all family law matters which do not involve court proceedings.
We do this during your initial consultation, after discussing your case and determining what work is required to resolve your family law issues. The quote we provide will be specific to your case. However, you can see estimates of the family law fees we commonly charge for cases like yours by clicking on the links below.
For some cases, particularly those involving court proceedings, we may be unable to fix a fee at an initial consultation as we do not have enough information to accurately determine the amount of work which will be required. This is because family law fees can be affected by several factors. For details of the factors which can affect your costs click here.
In these types of cases we charge fees based on an hourly rate, broken down into units of 6 minutes.
For each item of work undertaken, we record the time it takes to do the work and then break that down into units. Each 6 minutes, or part thereof equals 1 unit. For example, a phone call which takes between 1 and 6 minutes is equal to 1 unit and one which takes between 25 and 30 minutes is equal to 5 units.
Prior to you engaging us, we will advise you of the work we anticipate will be required in your case and provide you with an estimate of the total costs you are likely to pay for that work. Then, we will send you invoices at least once per month, with a detailed record of all work undertaken and breakdown of the family law fees charged. We will advise you immediately, if our original estimate of fees is likely to be exceeded.
Once we have more information about your case, it may be possible for us to fix fees for specific items of work or stages of the court proceedings.

We do not undertake legal aid work in family law matters. However, you may be able to find another lawyer who does or seek representation directly from Legal Aid Queensland.
